Kyaw Lin and Nyunt Win

I met them at front line. They were high school students and student union members from Rangoon. We told them life is going to tough as freedom fighters and tried to dissuade them from joining us. They were more committed to the cause more than me. Almost 20 years later, here I am in the US. Both of them are still with ABSDF, continuing the fight. I took this pictures probably in 1996 when I went back and visited their camp inside Burmese jungle.

This was taken sometime in 1989, in front of ABSDF102 camp office in Three Pagoda Pass. Ko Aung Kyi Oo (with white bandage) was the company commander. He lives in upstate New York now. Khin Soe (far left front row) was killed in action in Ye township. I was the third person in the back row (from left) next to a Chinaman, Ko Myo Aye.

My family in Fredericksburg

Elliott, Andrew, Edith and Esther. It was taken in 2007 in downtown Fredericksburg. Twins were a little over one year old.
(Left to Right): Ko Myo Aye (resettle in Australia), me and Ko Chit Pwe (Resettle in Fort Wayne, IN). They allowed me to stay at their apartment. There were about 9 of share a two rooms (+ a hallway kitchen) apartment. So, 4 or 5 of us had to share a room. We had a great time except had to worry about being arrested by police. I remember one day I went out with a friend of mine to a department store. When we came back, there were nobody in the apartment. A neighbour told us, "Police came and got them."

Ko Aung Thu Nyein leaving for Front Line (Circa 1990)

This picture of Ko Aung Thu Nyein (ABSDF 101, Company 2) and his men was taken before they left for front line. We moved to this area after the Three Pagoda Pass camp was taken by the Burmese army. The camp was located on the bank of a stream. Our camp was located right next to theirs. We stayed there for about 1 year and moved to Nat Ein Daung. Again, the Thai government forced us out.

Richmond Time Dispatch- "Beyond Rangoon"

"Beyond Rangoon" movie was out and we were campaigning to raise awareness about Burma. I talked to critic Daniel Neman from the Richmond Times Dispatch, Richmond, Virginia. I offered to share my personal experience and explained to him the background story of the movie. One of my friends, Ye Myint was in the movie. He liked my story and decided to write an article. I was a little bit embarrassed to be in the newspaper.
